Our crude oil segment consists of three (FERC)-regulated pipelines (Pony Express, Powder River Express and Iron Horse) and 9 terminals, with the capacity to transport about 700,000 barrels per day and store more than 8.3 million barrels. The approximately 900-mile Pony Express Pipeline extends from Wyoming and southeast Colorado to North America’s oil hub in Cushing, Oklahoma, connecting with three refineries along the way.
Tallgrass is using facilities along the Pony Express route as testing ground for an initiative to deploy solar where solar PV could help power operations. We installed solar panels at our Grasslands Terminal site, which currently provide 96 percent of our administrative energy consumption demand at that facility. As we track the Colorado site’s performance, we are simultaneously evaluating other sites for solar and battery installation.
